Who We Are… and How we Got Here
I represented a leading manufacturer of portable machining equipment for many years, visiting power plants around the USA – Europe too!
Machine tools make metal chips; keeping these chips out of tubes was a FOD (Foreign Object Damage) problem. Rags, tape and wire were handmade into ‘tube gags’ of questionable quality.
Much better debris control around critical areas was needed.
“I wish you would make these” a busy Quality Control Manager said. So we did.
We studied types of debris seen and how best to keep debris from getting past our design. It had to be a GREAT FME Device.
After (many!) prototypes we found what worked.
The Safe-T-Sponge was born.
But we only made them in diameters.
Soon a plant engineer saw how well they worked and pointed to a steam turbine under repair. A dropped roll of duct tape had fallen out of sight into an extraction port stopping work. He asked if we could make a 24” diameter Safe-T-Sponge to prevent a repeat. We did… then sizes in between and way beyond!
We Now Make
diameters above 50” (1270 mm), squares, rectangles, laminated, laminated enclosed, high temperature and our newest ‘PD’ Purge Dam products.
We even make (many!) ‘specials’ to fit unique openings from emailed prints; we load it on our CAD program and most of the time, quickly make a special Safe-T-Sponge to fit!
Family
My son and I started out (really!) small and gradually grew. More family and ‘non-related’ family joined us. Word spread and our customers sent more orders.

After renting a series of larger industrial units we bought and completely refurbished a 20 year old industrial building (with adjacent lot!). We made it ideal to manufacture Safe-T-Sponges efficiently in a super clean environment.
Speed follows quality.
We never stop improving Safe-T-Sponge: quality molded parts, super tough foam and special laminate that helps flame retardance and durability. We focus on quality not production goals. Quality means less problems, smoother manufacturing and satisfied customers.

High Standards, High Performance
We build to our tough ADVSTS-1644 standard. It covers all halogens and certain chemicals known to negatively affect metals. We use lot control to manage Safe-T-Sponge production. Each has a lot control number for traceability. We use independent labs in the USA and Canada for testing.
Safe-T-Sponges are:
